elephants

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B17kRwsDojw

I originally planned to make a gif comic that is a retelling of the cinematic masterpiece Air Bud (1997) this time featuring an adult elephant.

Now I think what i want to do is reproduce scenes from iconic movies and replace animal characters with elephants. Like little rascals, air bud, lassie, etc

honestly i don't really have a lot here i gotta get this figured out

Kelcey Carbery - Elephants

Proposal:
Editorial Illustrations

I would like to illustrate two "larger than life" elephants on a textured or patterned background. They will be realistic in appearance and I'd like to do them in watercolor, then transfer my watercolor drawing into photoshop for further editing. I am very interested in mimicking the process of their skin and texture by hand, as I feel that it will make the piece more successful. I would potentially like to do three "posters" or editorial illustrations, as I like all of my final sketches equally. I am most interested on focusing on the matter of poaching and elephant tusks.

Proposal:

When returning back to my thoughts upon the nature of elephants, the first inclination I had was purely based on the familial element in their nature, as well as the sad truths of the poaching that occurs in Africa of said elephants. In the end the proposal that I took in hand is one portraying the elephant as a caring, loving, and fun creature, but also one that has the potential to be lost within history (essentially a living artifact to preserve). The process will be one of using sculpted clay in a small armature scene containing at most three elephants. Colors in the sculpting process will be limited to white/pearl/grey/pink. Afterwards, I will lay a painted layer over the clay, and the colors will expand to further greys/pinks/blue/orange (yellow). The size will be roughly (8/10in x 10/12in x 4/6in), as size may change when I have to add/remove elements to change stability or elaborate further on the idea. Finally, the elephant will be photographed in color (digital) as well as black and white film (photo). The backgrounds in the photographs will be blank spaces and natural environments that are cohesive with the tone of the sculpture.

Below are the reference photos that I mainly used for the first step of this process:

Proposal

Children's book illustration of an Asian elephant walking alone in the forest.
"Let one walk alone, committing no sin, with few wishes, like elephants in the forest." This quote in the animation film Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is based on a Buddhist poem Elephant from Dhammapada. The quote describes being solitary; however, rather regarding it as something undesirable, it tells that being solitary is not always happy, but can be free and peaceful, like how an elephant lives in the forest.
While female Asian elephants usually live in a small group, male Asian elephant usually stay alone after they grow up. Actually, even female elephants would leave the group for several days sometimes. They can communicate with other individuals far away with scent and sound.
I want to portray elephants as someone who are not afraid and enjoy their time of being alone. It does not mean they hate socialization. I want to show they are independent and self-sustained. I want to show the peaceful and happy moments in their life.
I'm going to draw with ink with limited light color.

Proposal:

For my project, I will do two or three 3D paper cuts employing light and shadow, and will photograph the results. I would like to show their sensitivity, intelligence, and exploratory nature. I also want to show their physicality while suggesting a sense of fragility. Because their environment is also being endangered, nature will also play an important role in the composition.
