­­­­ Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep, was believed to carry a poppy stalk that dripped a liquid that caused sleep.

Most dreams contain color and occur during the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep. REM occurs about 5 times a night.

Because nicotine is a stimulant, heavy smokers have difficulty falling asleep and don’t sleep as deeply.

 In 1964, Randy Gardner set the Guinness World Record by staying awake for 264 hours. By the last day, he was having hallucinations and difficult thinking.

Morphine, a drug used to relive pain and induce sleep, gets its name from Morpheus, the Greek god of dreams
