Book Illustration Thumbnails - Modelland by Tyra Banks

Yeah, Tyra Banks world famous super model wrote a fantasy novel. It's a so bad it's good that it goes back to bad to finally loop around to good type book in my opinion. Its got this Harry Potter thing going on, there's magical school for modeling. All the girls want to go, it's magical bla bla bla. Once a year (?) 7 "SMIZES" are let loose out in the land. If a girls finds it she's automatically accepted to the school, along with other girls who qualify. Our mary sue of a main character of course finds one. People who don't get accepted may get what is called the "Pilgrim's Plague," they try to scale the mountain where the school is but must cross the "diabolic divide."

Quote from book: "But for most of the year, [the mountain]'s covered in fog, its color changing with each passing day as if it's a gargantuan mood ring. You begin your mornings staring at the fog, longing for the fateful evening when it will turn a golden yellow and then, finally, like a push-up brassiere, lift."

In the book there are theses 3 Obelisks made of Gold Silver and Alabaster at the edge of the town where main character lives. They become very important later on in the book, so I decided to add them, yet I found it hard to think of interesting compositions for them.
Later on in the book when our main character is at the school and she takes a wrong turn on the campus and finds her self in the "Catwalk Corridor," where models who have been catty get turned into, well, cats. The models heads are pretty much transplanted onto house cat bodies.
The protagonist gets attacked by the catty models until the Head Mistress of the school appears as a lion, tells all the catty models to leave protagonist alone. Then the Head Mistress leaves her mouth open with her tongue out and the protagonists thinks the smart thing to do is walk into her mouth. And the protagonist does and gets magically returned to the dorms.
The book shifts later on to a group of characters whom are trying to climb the mountain and are trekking through the Diabolical Divide, going to quote parts of the book here.

Context: They've been hiking for a while, they decide to camp at pond. A mom and daughter pair decide to bathe in pond. Stuff happens.

Creamy stared at Jessamine as she frolicked at the center of the pond. "Lights out, shining star," she murmured ominously. Things began to rise to the surface. Skulls. Thousands of them. They bobbed on the water, forming a perfect circle around Jessamine.

Something rises out of the water.

Its body was made of dozens and dozens of human arms, and its head was a mash of ancient musical instruments contorted into an evil, hungry-looking array of sharpening, sideways-turned cymbals for teeth, hollow eyes made of tuba bells, and a steaming nose made of organ pipes.

It then eats the girl except her arms, and the monster places the girls arms on its head and the arms start playing the instruments.

And then in part of the climax one of the main characters is executed by a crystal and diamond guillotine.

And there is plenty more insanity in between theses scenes I've chosen. I chose them for either they are important to story or just stuck out when I read it.

Fashion Doll dress up game(?) - Alle Luisi

So I decided to upgrade to a more modern version of paper dolls and go with something along the lines of those Flash dress up doll games one can play online. Though I would have loved to been able to make a Flash game version, it didn't work. So they I am MacGyver-ing it, is by having a Photoshop file that I will upload to the computer which one can interact with via the layers, where each layer in Photoshop has an article of clothing that you can move around in to dress up the model with.

Birth and Beyond - A Happy Ending for A Migrant Family Torn Apart by Libyan Conflict - Alle Luisi

When the conflict in Libya broke out, pregnant Halima and her husband Walle – Nigerian migrants who had been looking forward to a new and joyous future – had their lives turned upside down. They had planned to return home for the birth of their first child but a week before they were due to leave Libya, the crisis reached Misrata, where the couple had been living and working for three years.

Amid the sound of artillery, bombs and gunfire, they were trapped inside their apartment for two months, afraid to go out. It was not only the bombs raining down on the city that kept them there but also stories of black Africans being targeted over allegations that they were mercenaries fighting for the Libyan leader. A Libyan friend would bring them food and provisions but despite this lifeline, they rarely slept.

When an artillery shell landed in the yard outside their home, destroying the house next door, they knew they had to find a way to leave. A friend had told them of an IOM boat that was taking migrants out of the besieged city so they managed to find a car and maneuver their way through a series of checkpoints to reach the port.
They had to wait several days at a Libyan Red Crescent site before the IOM boat was finally able to moor. Mines and heavy shelling of the port had forced the boat to stay off-shore for five days, uncertain it would be able to carry out its sixth mission to rescue migrants stranded in the city. But as the couple queued to board the trucks taking migrants to the dock, there was a burst of artillery fire, killing one migrant family instantly and sparking chaos among the others

"There were many wounded lying around screaming in agony. Half an hour passed before it was safe enough for the Red Crescent team to start loading people on the buses. By this time many trucks had left, never to come back. The few which remained were filled up quickly with people desperate to get to the IOM ship. I saw one truck that was full to the brink, but I told myself I must get Halima in. I better die here than she", Walle recalls.
For Halima, boarding the boat was a nightmare as people pushed and shoved and armed Libyans tried to prevent Africans from boarding.

"When an IOM staff intervened to stop them, they threatened to shoot him. By now artillery shells had again begun to fall in the port area. People were shouting and jostling. The crew on the boat decided to pull up the ramp and the boat started to pull away from the port. I fell down and cried in desperation as I realized we had left Walle behind", Halima remembers.
Halima arrived in Benghazi on 5th May and two weeks later, on 19th May and with no news of Walle during that time, went into labour. A day later she gave birth to a healthy baby boy but Halima refused to name him until Walle could do so. With communication between them cut, the waiting was agony.
Eventually on 23rd May, Walle and the other migrants were finally taken to the port to board IOM's seventh rescue mission to Benghazi. Before he left Misrata, he somehow got word of his son's birth. Overjoyed, he named him Mohammed Oluwapelumi – which means "God is with me".

Late on 24th May and with the help of IOM staff, Walle found his wife in a building at the border post where women migrants were sleeping. Speechless with joy at this unexpected reunion, Halima held on tight to her husband as he took his baby boy in his arms.

(;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`) - Alle Luisi

This assignment was difficult for me, working traditionally means I had to work to scale and cramming all that detail in was a pain, plus let's throw some artist block into the mix! ¯\_༼ ಥ ‿ ಥ ༽_/¯
Our student now fed up for her painting is now missing a chunk of her canvas gets to station building, where once again more flowers, more veggies, a little doggy encloser and a small play ground.
Here on median of a section of Mt Royal ave. We have more flower beds more veggies, a scarecrow not doing it's job well. Our student though, oh lets go pet the goats, but the goat was more interested in her project, a game of tug ensued.
An  aerial view of Triangle Fox/Brown/Bunting buildings + Lawn in-between, got some flowers right up next to Brown, students working on some gardening, wheel barrow full of poop from the sheep the other students are petting and our recurring character on her way to station.
