Stuey Before and After WIP Final - Devon Bragg

Before and After

Final sketch for New Yorker cover of Lindsay, going to mix sculpey and digital in this one. Head, hand, cockroach, and cat will be sculpey; hair, sweater, and background will be digital. Will also have the cat moving around in the scene more.

My sketches are pretty simple, Taylor mentioned his interest in Politics, so I thought including sort of stars and stripes theme would work well and still keep it pretty simple.

 

Two drafts for portrait-covers of Jackie. Trying to use graphic shapes and iconographic styles to express her attitude and fixation on animals and the ethical issues surrounding their treatment.

Erin Thiel --The New Yorker sketch (about Megan)

Apologies for the eye-searing plaid, Will definitely tone it down. I'm open to suggestions for the background, aside from where she's standing, as that's kind of the whole point of this particular sketch. Considering either digital or makers for the medium.

So Megan showed me this really fun picture of herself in a plaid one-sie(sp?) a puffy winter hat, and heels, which I kind of just ran with. She described her usual artwork as 'cheeky', being never fully serious and never fully funny, and goes back and forth between Baltimore and York, PA, Her 'guilty pleasure' is mac'n cheese with tofu. Megan's also really close with her family and friends.

Stuey - Portrait Sketches

I'll be doing my New Yorker piece about Devon traditionally. I'm looking at mixed media - pastel, colored pencil, gesso and graphite specifically. These first few sketches are in graphite and colored digitally. The main point from the interview process that I inserted in this sketch is Devon's connection with horses, but also how she's always smiling and genuinely caring for and thinking about others before herself. I wanted to show the loving connection that she has with her equine friends but also the caring aura her smile gives off! She also always looks nice :^)

For the second piece I wanted to show the same sort of themes as above but also Devon's strength, her heritage as a member of the Bragg family and the long-lasting military connection her ancestors have, as well as her love for medieval weaponry/antiques. This is a more fantasy-based piece, but I think it's a little more fun!
